REPORT NATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING
The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed with great enthusiasm and commitment by St. Peter’s Training College, Kolenchery, in association with various educational institutions including VHSS Kolenchery, GHSS Pazhamthottam, and MRSV High School, Mazhuvannoor, on June 26, 2025.
The United Nations observes June 26 every year as a day to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking, with a mission to promote health, well-being, and a drug-free world. This year, St. Peter’s Training College took the initiative to collaborate with nearby schools to conduct a series of awareness programs aimed at educating students and the community on the harmful effects of drug abuse.
The day’s events were inaugurated at the School Auditorium at 9:30 AM with the slogan "Breaking the Chains: Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery for All!" The program began with an Oath Taking Ceremony, where students, teachers, and guests pledged to say ‘No’ to drugs and promised to build a healthy, drug-free society. The solemn moment reflected the collective determination of young minds to reject the menace of drugs.
The students of MRSV High School added vibrance to the program with a Zumba performance, which carried the message of choosing life and health over addiction. Following this, an Anti-Drug Rally was conducted, where students marched with placards, banners, and slogans, spreading awareness about the grave consequences of substance abuse. The rally passed through key areas of the locality, capturing public attention and igniting discussions among onlookers.
GHSS Pazhamthottam, in association with the Training College, organized a creative campaign including a flash mob performance that depicted the struggles of addiction and the power of recovery. The street performance received great appreciation for its impactful message and artistic presentation.
In VHSS Kolenchery, a special awareness session was held highlighting the significance of June 26 as International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The session emphasized that drug abuse not only affects individuals but also destroys families and communities. Teachers spoke about the importance of mental health, counseling, and positive reinforcement in preventing youth from falling into the trap of drugs.
Throughout the program, students displayed posters and slogans with powerful messages such as "Say No. Choose Life," urging everyone to make conscious choices for a better future. The illustration of individuals breaking free from symbolic drug bottles reflected the hope and strength needed to overcome addiction.
The event concluded with a call to action, reminding everyone that the fight against drugs is a collective responsibility.
