National Reading Day Celebrations – 2025
Jointly Organized by St. Peter’s Training College, Kolenchery and Partner Schools

In commemoration of National Reading Day on June 19, 2025, St. Peter’s Training College, Kolenchery, in collaboration with various local schools, organized vibrant reading competitions to celebrate the enduring legacy of P.N. Panicker, the pioneer of the reading movement in Kerala.

1. MRSV High School, Mazhuvannoor

At MRSV High School, the event began at 2:00 PM in the School Auditorium. The program, themed "Open a Book – Open Your Mind!", encouraged students to embrace the joy of reading and intellectual growth. The competition saw active participation from high school students. The winners were:

  • 1st Prize: Avanthika Anoop
  • 2nd Prize: Muhammed Althaf
  • 3rd Prize: Adhil P.A

These students impressed the judges with their fluency, expression, and deep understanding of the passages they presented.

2. GHSS Kadayiruppu

In another celebration held in collaboration with GHSS Kadayiruppu, the reading competition took place in the Seminar Hall from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The competition was attended by students from Class 8 and was a vibrant display of talent and enthusiasm. The winners from GHSS Kadayiruppu were:

  • 1st Prize: Alna (Class 8 E)
  • 2nd Prize: Bony (Class 8 C)
  • 3rd Prize: Muhammad (Class 8 E)

The participants demonstrated excellent reading skills, voice modulation, and clarity, making the competition a grand success.

3. St. John’s School, Kanniattunirappu

Simultaneously, St. Peter’s Training College also partnered with St. John’s, Kanniattunirappu to organize a reading competition at their Seminar Hall from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The program featured a serene backdrop and included readings focused on nature, literature, and values. The event promoted peaceful and immersive reading among students, aligning with the vision of P.N. Panicker.


These coordinated events across multiple schools highlighted the importance of cultivating a reading habit from a young age. The competitions were designed not just to evaluate reading fluency but to foster a love for books, enhance comprehension skills, and boost confidence in public speaking.

All the events included motivational speeches by faculty members emphasizing the pivotal role of reading in personal and academic growth. Prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners by staff representatives from St. Peter’s Training College.

The celebrations across different venues served as a tribute to Kerala’s cultural commitment to literacy and lifelong learning. It also reinforced the values propagated by P.N. Panicker—“Read and Grow”. The enthusiastic participation and excellent performances reflected the enduring spirit of National Reading
