St. Peter’s Training College, Kolenchery
Date: 5th June 2025
Venue: Seminar Hall
Time: 9:30 AM
St. Peter’s Training College, Kolenchery, observed World Environment Day 2025 with great enthusiasm and environmental consciousness. The theme for this year’s celebration was “Ending Global Plastic Pollution”, a vital and urgent call to action for all citizens, especially future educators, to lead sustainable practices.
The programme commenced at 9:30 AM in the college Seminar Hall. The event began with a welcome address by one of the faculty members, followed by an inspiring inaugural speech by the Principal, Dr. Jay Ealias, who was also the chief guest. In his address, Dr. Ealias highlighted the significance of World Environment Day and emphasized the responsibility of teacher trainees to create awareness about environmental issues in schools and society. He urged the students to actively engage in eco-friendly practices, reduce plastic usage, and protect the earth for future generations.
The keynote speech was followed by a pledge-taking ceremony, where all students and staff stood in unity and vowed to protect and nurture nature. The pledge, led by a student representative, focused on reducing plastic consumption, planting more trees, conserving resources, and spreading environmental awareness. The seminar hall echoed with determination as every participant raised their right hand and repeated the pledge with conviction.
A visually enriching poster presentation on the theme was displayed, created by the student-teachers. The poster, beautifully designed, carried the message "เดฎเดฃ്เดฃിเดจെเดฑുเด്เดാം, เดชเด്เดเดตിเดฐിเด്เดാം", meaning "Embrace the Earth, Let It Blossom Green", symbolizing the commitment of the institution towards environmental sustainability.
Following the seminar, all attendees proceeded to the college garden for the tree planting ceremony. Under the guidance of the Principal and faculty, student-teachers participated in planting saplings in the campus compound. This hands-on activity was symbolic of their pledge to contribute positively to the environment. Dr. Ealias personally joined in the tree planting, setting an example for all. Faculty member in charge of the nature club, Smt. Sreekala, ensured the event was carried out systematically with student participation.
This practical step towards greener surroundings was met with enthusiastic participation, and it provided a learning experience that went beyond the classroom. The tree planting activity not only helped the students understand the importance of trees in fighting climate change but also instilled a sense of responsibility and care for the planet.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by a student representative, acknowledging the contributions of the management, principal, faculty, and all students for making the event a grand success.
